On December 12, 2007, Shams Publishing and Media Foundation was launched as a serious initiative aimed at providing a new vision to help correct several paths in the publishing field. It was established as a step toward founding a comprehensive cultural and media project that seeks to promote Arab creativity across various disciplines, enrich the publishing industry, and offer a genuine contribution to the legacy of the Arab book—within a balanced framework that combines the nature of its work as a commercial institution aiming for profit and expansion, with its cultural mission and the aspirations of authors.

Over the past 15 years, the Foundation has contributed nearly 600 diverse publications to the Arab library across multiple fields, written by authors from 30 nationalities across more than 50 Arab and European countries. It has also organized dozens of cultural events, seminars, and book signings, participated in Arab book fairs, and supported various cultural and artistic projects.

Mission of the Foundation:

Shams Publishing and Media Foundation aims to lay the groundwork for a comprehensive cultural project that promotes Arab creativity in all fields and enhances the publishing industry with new perspectives—striking a balance between operating as a profit-driven business and fulfilling its cultural mission by supporting authors.

Goals of the Foundation:

• Making high-quality culture accessible to Arab readers and meeting their knowledge needs.

• Actively promoting Arab creativity through modern publishing and distribution strategies.

• Supporting and encouraging young authors by nurturing their talents and helping to publish and highlight their work.

• Reaching non-Arab audiences by translating distinguished Arabic works into different languages and collaborating with professional international publishing houses.

• Protecting the intellectual and financial rights of authors, and establishing a fairer system of financial relations. Supporting them in obtaining just support from cultural institutions without favoritism or exploitation.

• Enriching cultural life through live activities and events organized with successful promotional and logistical plans.

• Increasing public and media awareness of writers and their works, and building stronger connections between creators and readers.

• Strengthening ties between local, Arab, and international publishers, and between authors, intellectuals, and cultural institutions through constructive cooperation.

• Republishing, editing, and verifying useful Arab heritage works for contemporary relevance.

At Shams Publishing and Media Foundation, we aim to overcome many of the negative aspects of the publishing industry that have undermined the status of authors and books. We do not claim to spark a revolution in prevailing publishing standards—but we strive to complement the efforts of those concerned with the state of publishing in the Arab world. We extend a hand of collaboration to anyone with a meaningful vision or experience in the field, whether individuals or institutions, because we believe that our relationship with stakeholders in publishing is based on cooperation—not competition. By working together to elevate authors and books, everyone benefits—from the writer to the reader to the publisher. Therefore, we welcome the support and collaboration of all across the Arab world.
