Egypt’s National Center for Translation Brings Onboard 80 Publishers

by | Aug 28, 2017 | News

Dr Anwar Mughith, Director of Egypt’s National Center for Translation, a subsidiary of Egypt’s Ministry of Culture, recently announced that the center has signed 80 contracts with private publishing houses in the Arab republic. This move has signalled a joint initiative to publish a series of books that will be translated from Chinese, Japanese, and other foreign languages into Arabic.

Mughith stressed special strategic measures have been devised to implement their collaboration with these publishers. The center will cover cost of printing and intellectual property rights (IPR), as part of the joint venture. The center will also collaborate with Egyptian publishing houses to market the translated books to increase their appeal within and outside Egypt.

The National Center for Translation has been witnessing steady growth. From 1,000 books in 2006, the center’s publications increased to 3,500 books in 2016, with an average annual increase of 300 books a year.
