Dr. Khalifa Alromaithi Wins at 18th Sheikh Zayed Book Awar

HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, has announced the winners of the 18th edition of the Sheikh Zayed Book Award following a meeting of its Board of Trustees organized by the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre (ALC), part of the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi. 

 

The chairman of the SZBA board of trustees, His Excellency Sheikh Sultan bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan, announced the winner of the Contribution to the Development of Nations category is Dr. Khalifa Alromaithi from the UAE, who won for his book in Arabic: (The Geographical Names – Memory of Generations), published by Austin Macauley Publishers in 2022.

The book is known for its geographical and historical information. It involves research on the abundance of precise maps, data, tables, numbers, images, and historical documents, setting the book “The Geographical Names – Memory of Generations” apart. In the mini-dictionary of geographical names in the UAE, he provided information about 1,195 names and included over 3,500 geographical names. Moreover, it explored the bases and regulations utilized in the naming of locations and the procedures for writing names in Arabic to assist non-Arabic individuals, acting as an academic resource for experts, academics, and researchers to aid in bolstering the examination of geographical designations in the UAE.
