by | Jun 5, 2025 | News

Scholastic, the world’s leading children’s book publisher, has appointed Chris Lick as its new general counsel, succeeding Andrew Hedden, who is stepping down after 17 years.

Lick, currently senior counsel at Scholastic, will assume his new position on June 1, reporting directly to President and CEO Peter Warwick. He will oversee global legal strategy across intellectual property, litigation, compliance, content, partnerships, and acquisitions.

“Chris has become a trusted advisor to our leadership team, balancing strong business insight with Scholastic’s core values,” said Warwick. “We’re excited to see him step into this role and grateful to Andy for his longstanding service.”

Lick joined Scholastic in 2008 from Kilpatrick Stockton and has held several senior legal roles within the company. Reflecting on his appointment, he said, “It’s been a privilege to support Scholastic’s mission over the years. I look forward to helping lead the next chapter of our work.”

Andrew Hedden, who also joined Scholastic in 2008, will transition into a senior counsellor role following a distinguished legal career of more than 50 years, including time as a partner at Baker McKenzie and Coudert Brothers.
