Books for Love: A Noble Hong Kong Initiative

by | Jan 4, 2024 | News

Embarking on its 12th edition, Hong Kong’s cherished charity initiative, “Books for Love @ $10,” has officially launched its month-long book collection campaign starting from the onset of 2024. With an extensive network of 44 drop-off points across Hong Kong, book enthusiasts are encouraged to contribute unwanted books to support the cause.

The primary objective of this initiative is twofold: to minimize waste and foster a love for reading within the community. All proceeds generated from the book sale in May 2024, held at Taikoo Place, will directly benefit the “Treasure Trove” project of the Boys’ and Girls’ Clubs Association of Hong Kong (BCGA) and the Agency for Volunteer Services (AVS), aiding those in need.

Donors are invited to contribute books in good condition, excluding textbooks, magazines, guidebooks, fortune-telling books, computing books, and materials containing violence or indecency. The collected items will be sorted by dedicated volunteers to ensure quality.

As a prelude to the main event, an online pre-sale featuring a curated selection of children’s books will run from late March to mid-April. The success of this community-driven initiative was evident in 2023 when over 250,000 pre-loved books were collected, drawing more than 40,000 book enthusiasts and raising a commendable HKD 1.1 million.

Book donations will be accepted until January 31, 2024, at various collection points spread across Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, and New Territories. The main charity book sale taking place from May 9 to 12 and 16 to 19.
