Bill Gates to Publish Book on Climate Crisis

by | Nov 4, 2020 | News

Microsoft billionaire Bill Gates is to publish a book on the climate crisis.

How To Avoid A Climate Disaster: The Solutions We Have and the Breakthroughs We Need will debut on February 16 2021.

The entrepreneur often speaks out about the environmental impact of meat – and has praised plant-based foods for their low carbon footprint

“I’ll share what I’ve learned from more than a decade of studying climate change with experts and investing in the innovations we’ll need to address it,” said Gates.

“I hope to explain the science in a clear and compelling way. I’ll also propose a plan for what we need to do over the next decade and beyond to build the tools that will help us eliminate greenhouse gas emissions while scaling up the powerful solutions we already have…

“I’ll suggest some concrete steps that individuals, governments, and companies can take to make it happen.”

The entrepreneur has frequently used his platform to shed light on the environmental impacts of meat.

However, it is unknown whether animal agriculture will feature in his upcoming book.

Earlier this year, Gates featured on a video with major YouTuber Mark Rober. The pair discussed how much land, water, and energy is needed to produce beef.

“The agriculture sector is about 18 percent of overall emissions, but livestock is about half of that 18 percent. Almost all of that is beef,” Gates said.

“One of the great tragedies about climate is that it’s the poorest in the world, the farmers who live barely near to the equator, that all this heat and flooding and droughts. They’re going to suffer by far the most.

“If you’re just trying to get people to cut back, don’t eat meat, don’t drive to work, don’t take trips . It’s such a dramatic set of sacrifices that everybody has to engage in that without innovation we’re probably going to go way past the two degrees.”
