The World of Literature Unite To Fund Global Vaccination

by | May 19, 2021 | News

The world of literature is a mixture of love, morality, and social conscience, it is where we often learn the difference between wrong and right. Therefore it comes as no surprise that people from authors, to agents, publishers, booksellers, and book bloggers are coming together for the Books for Vaccines auction.

Books For Vaccines is a volunteer-run charity auction to raise money for Care International, who in turn are raising funds to help vaccinate the world against the COVID-19 pandemic. The COVID pandemic has hit us all hard, but there is no denying that certain countries have been harder hit than others. Until everyone is vaccinated, the world will not be free from the pandemic and people will continue to suffer. The Book For Vaccines auction aims to raise money to help Care International vaccinate the world (not just the UK). The Books for Vaccines auction is being organised by Harper Collins UK’s Editorial Director Phoebe Morgan.

The auction has 170 amazing lots that you can bid on from signed books to editorial feedback and advice sessions to having characters named after you. There is something for every book lover and budget. Including:

A signed copy of Girl A by Abigail Dean

A signed copy of The End of Men by Christina Sweeney- Baird

An exclusive early proof of bestselling author Lindsey Kelk’s new book On a Night Like This

The literary auction has made more than £23,000 so far Bidding at Books for Vaccines, for a personal consultation with literary agent Jonny Geller has reached £1,000, while a signed box set of the Wolf Hall trilogy, with handwritten first sentences from Mantel, has topped £600. The auction is running until 21 May, with other lots including the chance to have a character named after you in the next novel by Sarah Pinborough, author of the Netflix hit Behind Her Eyes, a signed copy of Marian Keyes’s novel Grown-Ups, and the chance to write the dedication at the front of Jill Mansell’s new novel. Other donations include a signed first edition of a Robert Galbraith novel, signed with JK Rowling’s pseudonym, a 30-minute call with one of Penguin’s editorial directors offering advice on getting published, and a signed and dedicated set of all five of David Nicholls’s novels.
