Europe will enjoy Philippine Literature at Frankfurt 2025

by | Aug 22, 2023 | News

The President and CEO of the Frankfurt Book Fair, Juergen Boos, has officially declared that the Philippines will hold the esteemed position of Guest of Honor for the event’s 2025 edition.

Boos expressed his anticipation for the Philippines’ upcoming guest of honour presentation, highlighting the broader purpose of this program. He emphasized that it not only shines a spotlight on the literature and culture of a specific region but also fosters dialogue and networking opportunities for the guest country within the global publishing community.

Despite its status as the 13th most populous nation in the world, with over 110 million citizens, Boos acknowledged that Philippine literature remains relatively unfamiliar to many in Europe. However, he sees this as an exciting chance for Europeans to explore this literary terrain.

The Philippines will offer insights into the significance of storytelling and the contemporary cultural landscape within Philippine civil society. Boos expressed particular enthusiasm for the diverse influences stemming from the country’s 7,641 islands, where a remarkable 183 different languages are spoken. These aspects promise to enrich the experience of attendees at the Frankfurt Book Fair in 2025.
