7-year-old Syrian Author Mentored by J.K. Rowling for New Book

US publishing giant Simon & Schuster has recently released Dear World by 7-year-old girl, Bana Al Abed, who came to public attention after she took to Twitter to describe the frustration and horrors that were a way of life for her and her family in their war-torn country, Syria.

Her heartrending messages touched the world and prompted the creator of the Harry Potter series, J.K. Rowling, to help Al Abed to write and publish Dear World – a book that narrates the story of a girl who lived surrounded by death and war, and could not even go to school. In her memoir, Al Abed speaks about how she spent her days playing and reading with her two brothers, Mohamed and Noor. Dear World is a story of love and courage amid brutality and terror.
