24th edition of Muscat International Book Fair kicks off

882 publishing houses, including 629 directly and 253 by proxies, will take part in the 24th edition of the Muscat International Book Fair, which takes place between 21 February and 2 March 2019. The participating publishing houses will offer more than 523 thousand titles in various branches of knowledge and in different languages, with modern publications representing 35% of them.

Al-Buraimi province, north-west of Oman, will highlight its history and customs as the guest of honor of this year’s edition. The Fair will also host 30 countries, of which some participating for the first time such as China, Canada, Sri Lanka and Bulgaria compared to 28 countries in the previous edition.

Out of the Fair’s 106 events, 22 activities will be held in the province of Buraimi, and include intellectual seminars, poetry evenings, workshops and panel discussions. The Fair will also honor writer Boshra Khalfan, the academic and critic Ihsan Sadiq, and the professor of Arabic, and the musician Musallam al-Kathiri, as three Omani personalities who influenced the Omani and Arab sentiment by their works.
